Lane restrictions on Rochester Old Bridge

Motorists are advised there will be a temporary single lane closure on the Old Bridge at Rochester, overnight on Tuesday, 5th June, to enable essential works to take place.

The works are part of a routine maintenance programme, including the cleaning of expansion joints and road gullies. This will be carried out by FM Conway, on behalf of the Rochester Bridge Trust.

Traffic management is scheduled to run overnight from approximately 9pm until 5am, in order to minimise disruption to road-users.

At the same time as these works, the Royal School of Military Engineering will be carrying out a training exercise on the Old Bridge. The training is a mock demolition conducted by officers participating in the Royal Engineer Troop Commanders’ Course (RETCC).

A spokesman from Arcadis, Bridge Engineer to the Trust, said: “These works are part of a range of measures undertaken at regular intervals to help maintain the structure in a safe and operable condition, allowing the continued free passage of vehicles and pedestrians across the River Medway.”
