Finalists announced in Conservation category of development awards
Four properties have been shortlisted for the newly-created Conservation category of the Kent Design & Development Awards 2016, which is sponsored by the Rochester Bridge Trust.
The category seeks to reward building projects that show an innovative and sensitive approach to refurbishment, conservation and/or reuse of redundant, threatened or underused buildings and structures across the county.
The four finalists are:
Command of the Oceans at Chatham Historic Dockyard – also a finalist in Public Buildings, Community
Folkestone Harbour Arm – also a finalist in Public Buildings, Community; and Infrastructure & Renewables
The Scenic Railway at Dreamland, Margate
The Yarrow Hotel, Broadstairs – also a finalist in Commercial, Industrial & Retail; and Public Buildings, Education
Bridge Clerk Sue Threader explained: “The Trust has a long history of maintaining historic buildings and structures, including the Old Bridge and the Bridge Chamber and Chapel at Rochester, all of which are listed. Conservation is an important part of our work and something we are keen to encourage.
“These finalists comprise four very different projects and we look forward to finding out more about their achievements. Good luck to everyone taking part in these awards.”
The winners will be announced at a ceremony on 14th December. Find out more about the awards here.
