St Andrew’s House refurbishment complete

A Grade I listed building has been given a new lease of life following a major refurbishment.

St Andrew’s House enters a new era as offices for the Rochester Bridge Trust, with the completion of the renovation being marked by Senior Warden Russell Cooper with the cutting of a cake.

Formerly known as The Old Deanery, a large part of the building – which is located within the precinct of Rochester Cathedral – has been completely refurbished, with works carried out to protect its structure and convert its interior to be suitable for modern office use.

The £150,000 refurbishment was paid for by the Trust, which has taken a five-year lease on St Andrew’s House.

Andrew Freeman, Operations Manager of the Rochester Bridge Trust, said: “It is incredibly rewarding to see the end result of this refurbishment and to be able to settle into our new offices.

“We worked with a number of partners to carry out the refurbishment and it was with great pleasure that we invited them, representatives of the Cathedral and other members of the community to attend our celebrations to mark the completion of the project. We are grateful to all involved.”

The refurbishment was carried out by BW May & Son Ltd, of Sittingbourne, with all plans managed by Claire Brown of Savills, and the IT infrastructure installation led by Ivan Greenaway and Ryan Caldwell of Adapto.

St Andrew’s House will be opened to the public for key events; the first being a free Bridge Wardens Lecture by Dr Anne Logan, on the subject of life during the First World War.
