Voluntary service of the highest level has been recognised with a formal presentation to former Senior Wardens of the Rochester Bridge Trust.
The Senior Warden heads the Court of Wardens and Assistants, the organisation’s board of 12 trustees. Senior Wardens are usually appointed for a two-year term and the post has been held continuously since Robert Rowe was appointed in 1383.
Lapel badges, made by specialist jeweller Thomas Fattorini Ltd, will be presented to all trustees who have served as Senior Warden, as a permanent memento of their service to the Trust. At a recent event, badges were awarded to Dr Anne Logan and Russell Race, current members of the Court who served as Senior Warden from 2009-11 and 2011-15 respectively. A badge was also presented to Rodney Chambers OBE, who has retired from the Court but served as Senior Warden from 2007-9. Other past Senior Wardens will receive badges at future events.
Russell Cooper, who is the current Senior Warden, will receive a lapel badge when his term comes to an end in 2019.
Sue Threader, Bridge Clerk to the Trust, said: “These special lapel badges are the Trust’s way of publicly recognising the efforts of the Senior Wardens, acting as a small thank you for their dedication to ensuring the continuation of this 600-year-old charity.”
