The Rochester Bridge Trust was founded in 1399 and is one of the oldest charities in the country. It was established to provide a free crossing of the River Medway at Rochester, a role which it still fulfils today. As well as providing and maintaining three major estuary bridges, the Trust delivers an award-winning engineering education programme and makes grants for education, heritage building conservation, agriculture and research. The funding for the Trust’s work is generated by financial and property investments which are derived from 14th century endowments. It receives no external grants or public funding and does not raise funds.
The Trust is governed by a board of unpaid charity trustees, known as the Court of Wardens and Assistants. A very rare vacancy has arisen for an Assistant Warden for the Rochester Bridge Trust and applications are invited. The Court seeks to ensure that its members have an appropriate spread of expertise with respect to the objects of the charity and the complexity of its business. The Court is seeking to appoint an Assistant Warden with knowledge and experience in at least one of the following areas: insurance, actuarial valuation, finance or investment management.
